The McKarey Kauffman Medium and Corneal Preservation Medium Centre

Product DevelopmentThe RIEB set up the Rotary Club of Hyderabad Cornea Preservation Medium Centre in 1994 with the support received from the IFETB, USA, and the Rotary Club of Hyderabad, India. This center is involved in the production and distribution of the McKarey Kaufman medium (a medium used for the preservation and storage of corneas and eye tissue material for up to four days. The MK Medium was specially developed at L.V. Prasad as an economical and cost-effective product for domestic distribution within India and in developing countries across the world) to several eye banks within India and 21 others in South East Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

Recognized eye banks and related hospitals or institutes can order the MK medium online, or post a requisition letter to the Centre.

Amniotic Membrane Preparation

The Amniotic Membrane is prepared from placenta removed under sterile conditions. RIEB collects placenta discarded during Cesarean operations only. This membrane is then cleaned and treated. The Amniotic membrane thus procured has been found to be very useful in reconstruction surgeries.

The amniotic membrane pieces processed by the RIEB are being made available for surgeons in the Institute for Ocular Surface Surgery and Reconstruction, and for use in research.

LVPEI ex-fellows can order the Amniotic Membrane online, or post a requisition letter to the Centre.
